Caravanning is Cool ! Caravanning holidays are now regarded as being
cool thanks to support from celebrities including pop stars Kylie Minogue and
the renaissance of the traditional British holiday.
The image of spending a holiday in a caravan holiday home, touring caravan or
motorhome has certainly been helped by a growing army of celebrity enthusiasts
including Jamiroquai singer Jay Kay, high profile politicians Margaret Beckett
and Lembit Opik and sports stars
Nigel Mansell and Ian Woosnam.
The boom in caravanning comes against a backdrop of increasing public
awareness about the environmental cost of flying together with a desire by
families to spend holidays closer to home.
Whether it’s the freedom offered by owning a touring caravan or motorhome, or
the peace of mind of having a caravan holiday home in the countryside or at the
seaside to escape to, there’s no disputing the fact that caravan sales are
booming.
Caravan Club figures reveal that
caravanning is now the most popular paid for holiday in the UK, with 19 per cent
of people taking a caravan holiday. Club membership rose by 57,000 last, taking
the total to more than one million.
A survey undertaken by the
British Holiday and Home Parks Association
revealed that caravan parks generate an annual tourism spend of £3.1 billion and
account for 28 per cent of all holiday bed nights in the UK.
The association also reports that half of all people living in the UK have
spent a holiday in a caravan at some time in their life.
